  • UPDATED: Two confirmed dead in Wednesday storms in Rinnie community

    8:30 p.m. -- Chris South, incident commander at the north command post at the Rinnie Fire Station, has confirmed five injured, including two critical who were airlifted out. Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency has confirmed there were two people who were killed in the storms while a third critical patient was flown to an area trauma center with condition unknown.

  • NC man indicted for 1st degree murder of Knoxville woman

    A special session of the Cumberland County Grand Jury met Friday and indicted a North Carolina man on a single count of first-degree murder for the death of a woman whose body was discovered in Crab Orchard Tuesday afternoon.

  • Body identified, man in custody

    Within 72 hours after a body was discovered in Crab Orchard and going on five hours of sleep, officers with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department have placed a man in custody in connection with the death of a woman whose body was discovered behind a gas station in Crab Orchard Tuesday afternoon.

    What started out as local investigations by the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department and Crossville Police Department rapidly expanded in scope with multiple agencies joining forces during a multi-month investigation into distribution of illegal prescription narcotics on the Plateau.
