Find unique crafts at annual Adshead Bazaar

The crafty talented ladies of Pleasant Hill have been creating handmade articles for the Adshead Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 14, all year. The sale is held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Blue Barn next to the Wharton Nursing Home on Lake St. in Pleasant Hill. Proceeds from the sale of things made by this group continue to be added to the Alice Adshead Endowment Fund or are used to obtain personal items for the residents of the Wharton Nursing Home under the umbrella of the May Cravath Wharton Association, Uplands Retirement Village — a nonprofit organization.

Special items this year involve some interesting and unique sewing projects in the form of quilts, pillows, machine and hand embroidered aprons, hand and dish towels, Japanese inspired Hopi coats, cloth stuffed kittens and log ornaments, draft dodgers, ponchos, and  other items of apparel or decoration. Gaby Hein and Eleanor Vogel contribute work of European and unusual knitting styles. Knitted and crocheted articles are vests, sweaters, baby clothes, tissue box holders, afghans with multiple square patterns and others.

Eleanor Lake, the creator of stuffed bears for many years, brought an interesting necklace project to the group and they cannot keep them in stock, but will have a good selection for the bazaar. These lightweight necklaces are crocheted ribbons that somehow look  like beads and are fastened with a magnetic clasp. Also ever popular is the collection of gently used jewelry. Christmas ornaments, decorations, and gifts will help prepare for the holiday season.

Homemade baked goods, jams, jellies, and candy will be offered for sale. A coffee shop will allow a shopping respite while providing drinks and homemade goodies for a donation. For information or directions, contact Joann Matheson, (931) 277-3238.
