Learn to knit, sew or crochet

— Helping Hands Ministry is offering a new service to the community — knitting, sewing and crochet classes at no charge.

Have you always wanted to knit but didn't know where to start? Used to knit, but think you've forgotten how? Join a class at Helping Hands Ministry.

If you have your own knitting needles in any size 8-15 please bring them to class. If you do not have needles the group will have some extras for your use. They have yarn with which you can learn simple stitches in four classes.

1. Selecting yarn and needles and the gauge. Casting on stitches.

2. Knitting back and forth — the garter stitch.

3. Purling — K1 row P1 row, K2tog and K2, yo, P2.

4. Getting started on making a shawl or lap robe.

Helping Hands Ministry only asks that you complete one item for them.

Classes will be held Mondays at 1 p.m. starting Sept. 13, 20, 27 and Oct. 4.

Have you always wanted to sew? Used to sew, but haven't for ages? Have no sewing machine? Call Helping Hands Ministry at 707-8606 to join a class. They have machines for you to use, fabric and thread. Classes will be held for beginners.

1. Threading the machine and the bobbin.

2. Setting types of stitches and length and straight seam stitching.

3. Sewing curves and corners.

4. Getting ready to make a lap robe or tote bag.

Helping Hands Ministry only asks that you complete one item for them.

Classes start Fridays from 11 a.m. to noon starting Sept. 3, 10, 17 and 24. Small classes — six machines only. Call to get on the class list.

Have you always wanted to crochet? Used to crochet, but haven't for ages? Have no hook? Call Helping Hands Ministry at 707-8606 to join a class. They have hooks and yarn. Classes will be held for beginners starting Monday, Sept. 13, from 11 a.m. to noon.

1. Selecting a hook and the right size of yarn. Single crochet.

2. Double crochet etc.

3. Increasing and decreasing.

4. Following a pattern—beginning a scarf.
