New otter features the signatures of 2,000 kids
John Teeple and sons John, 13, and Danny, 11, delivered another commemorative otter to Cumberland County Mayor Brock Hill last week to stand in the courthouse. It's complete with almost 2,000 signatures of children under 16 years of age. Teeple is a chainsaw artisan and shared his talent during last year's holiday season with his wooden nativity scene. He welcomes the community to call him at 510-6164 to tour his property to see his other statues he's carved from wood that include a display of famous scenes from the Bible. The otter will be on display at the courthouse through Dec. 31, 2006, when it will put in storage until the year 2056, the Cumberland County Bicentennial. At that time, it will be reintroduced to the old timers who signed it when they were young people, and to a new generation of Cumberland County residents.
