36th home goes up with Zurich's help
Stan Zuercher, founder of Zurich Homes, gathered friends and family on Iris Circle to help erect Habitat for Humanity's 36th home. They performed what Habitat for Humanity refers to as a blitz build. This means taking the house from foundation to dry in (watertight) in 48 hours. With a crew consisting of approximately 12 workers representing at least four construction companies or contractors, and wives and daughters to provide lunch, they completed this portion of the house over a weekend.
Habitat for Humanity is proud to announce because of its partnership with Zurich Homes on this blitz build, this home will be the first home built by Habitat that will be Energy Star qualified. Isaac Zuercher, son of Stan and co-founder of Zurich Homes, has volunteered to make sure that the home is certified to meet EPA's guidelines.
Even though there is a lot more to do before completion, new homeowner Brenda Cobb is in awe of what has been completed so far. She can't wait to call this house, the home of herself and the five grandchildren under her care.

PLATEAU GARDENING: Japanese beetles can cause major damage to gardens this time of year
The Japanese beetle population typically fluctuates somewhat from year to year. Members attending the July Cumberland County Master Gardener meeting were asked whether the number of Japanese beetles sighted around Crossville in 2010 was more or less than seen last year. Those attending thought there were fewer this year.
