Stanley authors second pictorial history
Crossville native Bryan Stanley, author of The Way It Was, a pictorial history of Crossville and Cumberland County, has published a second collection of pictures and stories, titled The Way It Was: The Second Time Around. Like his first book, Stanley's newest publication provides a glimpse into many facets as it was for local folks many years ago.
While the first book focused on Crossville and Cumberland County, Stanley has included pictures and stories of other communities in the region in The Way It Was: The Second Time Around. In addition to local material, some other areas of local interest include Sparta, Buffalo Valley, Oak Ridge and Tullahoma, as well as aerial photos of other areas of the state.
A book signing party to introduce Stanley's newest pictorial history of the area will be held at Mitchell's Drugs on Main Street in Crossville Friday, Sept. 19, beginning at 9 a.m.

PLATEAU GARDENING: Japanese beetles can cause major damage to gardens this time of year
The Japanese beetle population typically fluctuates somewhat from year to year. Members attending the July Cumberland County Master Gardener meeting were asked whether the number of Japanese beetles sighted around Crossville in 2010 was more or less than seen last year. Those attending thought there were fewer this year.
