Seussical, featuring many local students, begins Feb. 13 at the Cumberland County Playhouse
Seussical is a new musical for the whole family, drawn from stories and characters of the beloved “Dr. Seuss,” opening Feb. 13 on Cumberland County Playhouse’s (CCP’s) Mainstage in Crossville. Seussical is sponsored by CCP Education Sponsor Hughes Real Estate Services, with support from the Tennessee General Assembly via Tennessee Arts Commission and Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. Regular shows and school matinees are available
Seussical features Jason Ross as Horton the Elephant and Daniel Black as The Cat in the Hat, with Crossville’s Grace Harrison and Livingston’s Rachel Masters in the leading role of young JoJo. Anne Staler, Weslie Webster and Nicole Begue appear as Gertrude, Mayzie, and the Sour Kangaroo, with Cookeville’s Steven Harris as the Mayor of Who. Selected scenic items are by Cookeville Children’s Theater, with the CCP production designed and adapted by John Fionte, Jim Crabtree and Quinn Fortune.
Seussical has played Broadway and toured nationally, and is created by the hot young team of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, authors of musicals Once on this Island, Ragtime and others. Stars of Seussical include Tennessee kids, teens and adults from eight counties, including Cumberland, Putnam, Overton, Bledsoe, White, Roane, Fentress, and Knox. They join with the professional company as Gertrude’s backup Bird Girls, Wickersham Brothers with “Temptations”-style monkeyshines, the animals of Circus McGurkus, and the tiny “Who” people Horton discovers, living on a clover.
The Cumberland County cast includes Tori Allred; Adriana, Carlos and Jasmine Barnett; Darbi Banegas; Coco and Dune Bennett; Kayla Caron; Allie and Jensen Crain; Erin Curry; Caroline Daughtry; Baylee Davis; Perrianna Evans; Kristin Galloway; Blaklee Garret; Katie Green; Lyndsey Hardin; Grace Harrison; Olivia Hoyt; Whitney Isles; Mary Kemp; Terrilynn Klingberg; Kali Larson; Brooke Maury; Lexi and Makayla Moore; Sara Nelson; Carissa Parker; Abby Parsons; Hannah and Noah Rosenberg; Chaz Sanders; Zack Sells; Lance Smith; Leigh Smith; Berkley Southerland; Ian Sweitzer; Colton and Madison Turley; and MacKenzie Wylie.
