"Appalachian Dreams" hits the stage at Roane State May 16

Tickets are available for "Appalachian Dreams," a multimedia variety show hosted by Bill Landry that will feature music, history and storytelling.

Performances are scheduled for 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, in the theater on Roane State Community College's Roane County campus. Tickets cost $15. For ticket information, call (865) 403-2988. Proceeds benefit the planned renovation of Harriman's historic Princess Theater.

During the spring semester, Landry, the well-known host of The Heartland Series and Princess Theater Foundation board member, has worked with Roane State students and Associate Professor Michael Golebiewski to create "Appalachian Dreams."

Landry and his students have combed the region's hills and valleys to bring you fascinating stories of the people and traditions that make East Tennessee special.

The show will combine documentaries with live performances, including appearances by Hollywood star Muse Watson, the Pick 'n' Grin Bluegrass Band, The Chickadees, Jennifer Austin's Arts in Motion dancers, Babahatchie Community Band, Phillippi Primitive Baptist Church choir, Charlie Acuff and the Lantana Drifters, filmmaker Brooks Benjamin, and many others.

The partnership of Landry and the Roane State students reflects plans to renovate the Princess Theater into a local hub for arts education where students of all ages can learn to tell stories through film, music, art, dance, etc. For more information about the renovation, and how you can help, contact Gary Baker at (865) 882-2025 or garybaker@mindspring.com.
