Steve Boyce, tenor soloist, will perform on Sunday, June 7 at 3 p.m. in Adshead Hall of Fletcher House in Pleasant Hill. Boyce is a soloist for the Knoxville Choral Society, the Knoxville Chamber Chorale, and a cantor at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral in Knoxville. He entertains regularly at clubs, churches, retirement communities, and assisted living facilities.
Leola Piper Boyce was an operating room supervisor at the Uplands Sanitarium in Pleasant Hill in 1936 working with Dr. May Cravath Wharton (Doctor Woman of the Cumberlands). She married Bill Boyce in 1939 in the Berea College chapel. His parents were on the staff of the Pleasant Hill Academy. Bill became director of the farm and Community Center at Pleasant Hill. During Bill’s farm manager jobs in Crossville, Celina, and Nashville, Leola worked as a school nurse, hospital nurse, and private duty nurse. They came back to the Plateau for their retirement, moving to the Uplands Retirement Village in 1989. Bill died here in 1994 and Leola passed away in 2001.
Their youngest son, Stephen was born here on the Plateau and was an active member of the Cumberland County Playhouse during its beginning years. Boyce was a student of the Bryant Academy, which was an out growth of Tennessee Technological University. He will showcase his talent in the concert.
The concert is free and open to the public. Adshead Hall is on the lower level of Fletcher House on Fletcher circle off of Church Street across from the Pleasant Hill Post Office.
