The Cumberland County Piecemakers quilt show on Friday, June 19, and Saturday, the 20, at the fairgrounds has a special award that only the men who come to the show can vote on. This is a special award that is unique to this guild and this show. Called “Gentlemen’s Choice: Best of Show,” it is a tribute to the husbands who are so encouraging and supportive of their wives in their devotion to quilting and to an undertaking as big as this upcoming show. An additional draw for the gents is the antique tractor show, also at the fairgrounds at the same time.
“One of our member’s husbands felt so strongly that guys like different quilts than the ladies, he donated an award so the men could really make a statement and feel an important part of the show,” explained show co-chair Susan McCullough. “So the male visitors to our show will have a special ballot for their choice of Best of Show. They actually get to vote twice for the Best of Show because they will also get the traditional Viewer’s Choice ballot. This is our way of saying thanks to the men in our lives.”
Prize money has been donated for nine different awards from area quilt shops and from three other area quilt guilds. There are 11 different categories of entries, and a ribbon in each category will be awarded in addition to the cash awards.
“This is going to be a fun show, and we’re looking forward to counting all the ballots to see if guys really do pick different quilts as their favorites” added Sallye Sykes, show co-chair.
