Cumberland County Playhouse will hold readings and auditions on Wednesday, July 1, by appointment between 5-7 p.m., for women age 30-60 for roles in Showtime at First Baptist, the sequel to 2008’s Playhouse hit First Baptist of Ivy Gap. Playwright Ron Osborne chose the Playhouse for the Tennessee premiere of the play, and only the second production worldwide. Several roles are open, in addition to those featuring First Baptist cast members Carol Irvin and Weslie Webster.
Playhouse associate producer Nicole Begue directs and would like to see two contrasting monologues (1-2 minutes) from actresses who are new to her and asks that all be prepared to read from the script. One of the roles could be cast with an actress who plays the piano, and a good singing voice is helpful with several. So those attending may be asked to sing “Happy Birthday.”
Showtime at First Baptist starts rehearsal on July 14, opens on Aug. 13 and alternates in rep two to three times per week through October, with the schedule available at www.ccplayhouse.com. Experienced volunteers, semi-professionals and professional actresses are encouraged to audition, including women who have auditioned at the Playhouse in the past.
