The Fairfield Glade Lions Club schedules a special June dinner each year to install new officers and honor certain members for service. The Virginia Lindsey Leadership Award is one of these honors.

Virginia was the wife of Edward Lindsey, who was elected president of the International Association of Lions Clubs in 1966. They lived in Lawrenceburg, TN and were both very active for many years in the Lions Organization.

The requirements for earning the Virginia Lindsey Leadership Award include: less than eight years membership in a Lions Club; shows commitment to the club; displays a desire for leadership and becomes involved in club activities that fit the motto “We Serve."

Last year’s winner, Charlene Richardson, made this year’s presentation at the home of Harleen Dickinson, who was too ill to attend the dinner. She continues to carry out most of her duties as secretary and always asks the question “What else can I do to help?”

Dickinson became an active member almost from the first day she joined. She worked on the hearing screening and White Cane Days before becoming secretary. Her fellow officers have commented on the conscientious and dedicated service she has performed as secretary.

Harleen was very touched by this award. She commented, ”I only hope that I can be as deserving of the honor as Charlene. She is a great example of leadership and dedication to service. I feel so blessed to be a part of this great service organization and a member of the Fairfield Glade Lions Club.”

Memorial Day ceremony set Monday at 11 a.m.
The Cumberland County Veterans Council will sponsor a Memorial Day Ceremony May 28 at the Cumberland County Veterans Memorial Park. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. with the Cumberland County Band performing, flag/colors presentation, an incredible singer, guest speakers and a special key-note speaker.
