Elsa’s Furniture under new ownership

CROSSVILLE — Jon and Rachel McKeel, former owners of Elsa’s Furniture and Resale Gallery in Crossville, have announced the sale of their store to new owners, Howard Bowen and Mary Freitag. The new owners are making some wonderful changes, while retaining the high quality products that have been appreciated by customers throughout Cumberland County and other areas throughout the U.S.

Bowen and Freitag started their business venture Sept. 20, with inventory already in place and ready for sale. Freitag’s daughter, Stephanie Chandler, has been instrumental in handling the transition. She has made major improvements in the reception area of the store, as well as reorganizing the operations and procedures for the store.

The business will continue to offer consignment opportunities, selectively, for persons wishing to sell their furniture and household goods.

“’We can’t take everything people offer us,” Bowen said. “Due to limited space and the need to move products within a short time frame, we will have to be selective in choosing our consignments, but we will be able to help a lot of folks who need to reduce their possessions.”

An open house at Elsa’s is planned for Friday and Saturday, Oct. 12-13. Refreshments and special discounts will be available for all attendees.

“We are looking forward to meeting previous customers and new customers,” Freitag noted. “Y’all need to come see us. We are excited about our new business venture, and we think you will be excited, too, when you see how we intend to serve our customers’ needs in the Crossville area.”

Elsa’s Fumiture was founded in the year 2000. The vision of the previous owners has been to offer high quality home fumishings, especially products made in the USA. In addition to solid wood furniture with good craftsmanship, the store has offered (and will continue to offer) unique and individualized accessories, antiques, vintage and modern jewelry and seasonal home decor.

The former owners are retiring, but will be remaining in the area.

“In attempting to sell our store, which we have nurtured and enjoyed for 12 years, we wanted to find someone who had the background and personality needed for our retail operation,” Rachel McKeel said. “We are so pleased to have found these wonderful people who have the skills to do well as the new owners.”

The building in which Elsa’s is housed was originally a Studebaker showroom. It was also the home of Shadden Tire Company for several years.

“This is an historic building in downtown Crossville,” said Jon McKeel. “Prior to Elsa’s being in this location, it was also the home of Page Furniture for 12 years. So it has been filled with fine furniture for a long time.”

Elsa’s Furniture and Resale Gallery is at the corner of Webb Ave.and Hwy. 70 East in downtown Crossville. Their hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The business is closed on Sunday and Monday. Seasonal and special promotional hours may be announced at a later date.
