CROSSVILLE —
At the annual National Defense Dinner of The Crab-Orchard Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, Regent Joyce Yaeger presented a check on behalf of the chapter to Gus Gocella, Cumberland County representative for HonorAir Knoxville.
Since its inception in 2007, HonorAir Knoxville’s goal has been to fly as many East Tennessee World War II and Korean War veterans as possible to Washington, D.C., to see the memorials built in their honor.
Forty-five Cumberland County veterans have made the flight thus far, and several more plan to go on the next flight in April 2013.
The trip costs approximately $500 per veteran, and since there is no cost to the veterans, the financial support of the community is needed to make these flights a reality. The Crab-Orchard Chapter, with its donations to HonorAir Knoxville, is helping to make it possible for our Cumberland County veterans to make the trip. This was the Chapter’s second donation for the veterans’ flights.
Mr. Gocella’s presentation at the Chapter’s National Defense Dinner included a video depicting the day’s activities with veterans who took advantage of HonorAir Knoxville’s Flight #10 in the Fall of 2011.

Newest engine responds to its first structure fire
The Fairfield Glade Fire Department received a call of a structure fire Wednesday night around 10:20 p.m. from central 911 Dispatch. The fire was called in by a resident who saw a mobile single wide home fully involved with flames coming out of every window the structure.
