Senft recipient of FGUMC Towel & Basin Award

As Christ’s disciples, we are called to a life of service in His name to others. It is how we live out our faith. Each year our church presents the Towel & Basin award to the member whose discipleship and servant leadership inspires and encourages others.

Sara Senft is our 2010 recipient. Her example of calm courage and willingness to go where many others would rather not is an example to many. She draws strength from a deep and abiding faith that she truly lives out in all she does … working not only for the greater good of our congregation, but for the county as well.

This year’s Towel and Basin recipient can be seen volunteering at Habitat for Humanity, hauling crushed beer cans for the Humane Society, pruning shrubs and transplanting trees around the church grounds. She is often the calming oil upon troubled waters in times of conflict and unrest within the various boards she serves throughout the community. She cares for and about the least and forgotten — whether it is someone in a nursing home who has no family or a blind and abandoned dog.

She served for years as secretary for the trustees and is currently an active Stephen Minister. She has organized worship services at Fairfield Glade Assisted Living as well as additional activities for the residents there. She regularly visits folks at our nursing homes and brings joy to the staff and other residents as well. This year the presentation was made a bit early, for good reason. For the last five years, Sara has designed and made the stain-glass awards given to the recipients. There was a lot of praying this year that she wouldn’t ask when we would be doing the presentation, because we couldn’t see having her make her own award! Based on Sara’s pattern, associate pastor Lanita Pride cross-stitched a piece as this year’s award to Sara.
