CROSSVILLE —
Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church honored sixteen Cumberland County students with scholarships on Sunday, May 20, 2012.
To be eligible for the scholarship, students must already attend or have been accepted at a university, college or technical school in Tennessee, and have maintained at least a 3.0 grade average.
This year, nine scholarships were awarded to those students who have received scholarships in the past from the church. Two new scholarships were awarded to 2012 high school graduates, and five new scholarships were awarded to students already attending a college or technical school. Four students are non-traditional students who are enrolled in an institution of higher learning after being out of school for several years.
Additional scholarship winners this year, but not pictured, are Katie Greene, David Keyes, Beverly Turner, Dreama Webb and Cassie Wyatt.
The FFGUMC Scholarship Fund was established in 1991 when Becky Pittman donated monies in memory of her son, Stephen Link. Since then, many individuals and church organizations annually donate funds to make these scholarships available. Two hundred sixty-eight Cumberland County students have benefited from these scholarships since the fund was established. The scholarships are need-based and are sent directly to the institutions of choice for tuition, fees, supplies, books, and dormitory charges. No monies are given directly to the individual student.
