Retzer honored as January “Student of the Month”

CROSSVILLE — Cumberland County High School senior Fiona Retzer begins 2013 as FFG Lions “Student of the Month” for January. CCHS Counselor Leslie Eldridge selected Fiona for her outstanding school record. The Fairfield Glade Lions Club chose the month of January to bestow the honor.

Ms. Fetzer has been an active member of the Jet Theatrix Drama Club since her freshman year, with seven production lead roles. Her latest lead role was playing the part as Irena in the production, “I Never Saw Another Butterfly.” She has been a member of the French and National BETA Clubs for the past two years. Fiona is an honor student and has taken as many Advanced Placement and dual credit courses as possible to prepare for college.

Fiona has several outside activities as well. She has been an active participant at the Cumberland County Playhouse for many years and took jazz dance classes for five years. Fetzer is still being trained in modern dance, which has been going on for the past six years.

She is an active member of the Saint Alphonsus Catholic Church Youth Ministry. Over 100 hours has been contributed to the youth programs since the sixth grade. Now, one would think with all the dance and drama experience and service to the church youth she would select one of those careers in college. However, her future plan and goal is to major in either biology or biomedical engineering.

The Lions Club Chairman for the “Student of the Month” Program is Bob Cover. Bob commented, “It is a real pleasure and thrill for me to be able to meet and be a part in choosing a month for their honor. It gives me great hope for the future of our country with so many fine young citizens in our community.”

“Student of the Month” is only one of the programs offered by the FFG Lions Club to help make our community a better place to live. Many others are available to provide opportunities to volunteer some of you time to help others. Please call Membership Chairman Jerry McBride at 707-0438 to attend one of their meetings to learn more about Lionism.
