Korean War Veterans, if you didn’t get to see Marilyn Monroe perform for the troops at the 38th Parallel in Korea in 1954, your chance to see her here in Crossville is at the USO Show at the historic Palace Theatre in downtown Crossville.
Although Monroe performed 23 shows in Korea in seven days, she is scheduled for only two performances locally: Saturday, Nov. 21, at the 2 p.m. matinee and the 6 p.m. evening show. During those shows, “Marilyn,” portrayed by Roane State student Jessica Murphy, will treat the audience to her sultry rendition of “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend.”
The USO-style radio variety show is produced by the Crab-Orchard Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution annually in November as a tribute to all veterans of Cumberland County who have served our country so loyally in times of war and peace.
This year’s USO Show will feature entertainers and historic figures from the 1940s World War II, 1950s Korean War and 1960s Viet Nam War eras.
The show is the primary fund-raising event of the local DAR Chapter which established and supports the Cumberland County Veterans’ Emergency Fund, administered by the Cumberland County Veterans’ Service Office. Proceeds from the show also go toward the chapter’s historic preservation, education, and patriotic projects in the local community.
Last year, both shows were sold out, so get your $10 reserved-seat tickets now on sale at the Palace Theatre.

I saw in one of the magazines, that I sometimes read, that the Tennessee Fur Harvesters Association was having a fur sale in Crossville. “Fur harvesters” is another word for trappers. Trappers try to catch fur bearing animals like coyote, mink, and beaver for fun and profit. I talked Gary into going with me to see what we could learn.
