Ladies Club delves into 'life planning' in January
The Fairfield Glade Ladies Club meeting will be held at the Fairfield Glade Community & Conference Center on Wednesday, Jan. 6, starting at 11:30 a.m., with the doors opening at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will consist of mini meat loaves, green vegetable (not green beans), mashed potatoes, and chef’s choice sweet surprise. Wine will be on sale from 10:30 a.m. until the start of our business meeting at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $3 per glass (Happy Hour pricing). This should allow you and/or your guests time to leisurely visit our events/service tables and also socialize prior to our meetings.
Our special guest, Tonya Hinch, will be presenting "Alone — Just You, Your Checkbook and Your Children.” Tonya is CEO of Don Hinch & Associates in Crossville and founder of Life Planning Unlimited, a coaching and seminar business that supports people, especially women, in areas such as “Raising Their Cash IQ” and “Retiring Backwards.”
Prior to this, she rose from vice president of Start-Up Schools to executive vice president of School Operations for Edison Schools. As executive vice president of operations, Tonya was responsible for $500 million in business and over 7,000 employees. Edison Schools is the largest for-profit manager of public schools and operated over 120 schools in 23 states during her leadership moving from the 1,000th largest to the 43rd largest district out of 15,000 school districts in the U.S.
Tonya also worked at Utrafem, Inc., a start-up company in the women’s reproductive healthcare sector. She served as senior vice president of marketing and sales and launched “INSTEAD,” the most innovative new product in the feminine protection category in over 60 years. At Neutrogena, Tonya left the company as general manager of the haircare business, increasing the business over 45 percent during her leadership. Early marketing positions at Procter & Gamble and Clairol started her career. Tonya graduated from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor of science in business administration. Plan on attending to hear an interesting presentation on a very important subject that affects most of us.
January is the month to treat our best friends with gifts. Bring a food item for our four-legged friends, cats and/or dogs. They are also in need of old towels and rugs.
We ask that when you hear that another member is seriously ill or hospitalized, to please call Lee Stotz at 707-0995 or e-mail her at hondafamily@frontiernet.net. We would also like to know if a member/spouse or child dies so we can send condolences.
Reservations for the meeting can be made by e-mailing ffglcsnash@yahoo.com or calling 707-9167 between 8 and 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 30. The cost of the luncheon is $12. If you do not cancel before 9 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 1, you will be expected to pay for your lunch.
Additional Conference Center parking will be available at the Old Rec Center. Complimentary shuttle service will be provided between the Old Rec Center and the Conference Center between 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and again after the meeting adjourns. Carpooling is recommended. Public safety will also be on hand to provide assistance. Information is also provided on our Web site at www.ffgladiesclub.org.

FROM THE DESK OF: Budget committee's tax rate/budget recommendation is rejected by commission
At this month’s regular full County Commission meeting, the resolution to establish the tax rate for Fiscal Year 2010-2011 was defeated with 6 yes votes and 12 no votes. Without an approved tax rate, discussion of the budget appropriations was futile since there is no levy to pay for the proposed expenditures.

PATCHES OF LIFE: You’re full of beans
I stepped on the scale and it read 102,912 beans. I had never wondered what I weighed in beans, but I recall being told at one time I was full of beans. I really don’t know if the scale was accurate and I did have my shoes on so it may be a bean or two off.
