CROSSVILLE —
Area residents are going to be disappointed that they missed out on one of the hottest ticket opportunities to see and hear the Southern Stars Symphonic Brass presenting two Christmas concerts at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Nov. 17 at the Community Church in Fairfield Glade. This truly was the case of the "early bird gets the worm," as the 450 free tickets to each concert were snapped up within two days of their release to the public on Oct. 22.
Due to the tremendous response, Dwight Wages, founder and president of the SSSB wishes to remind those fortunate to get tickets of some key recommendations: 1) Please carpool with others to maximize the parking available at the church. When the Community Church lot is full (which we fully expect to happen), overflow parking will be at the Lutheran Church, two blocks south of the Community Church where a shuttle will bring concert-goers to the concert location and back to those cars after the concert. Do not head to the Lutheran Church parking area until directed to do so, as the shuttle will not be there until our lot is full. 2) Remember to bring your ticket vouchers, as these are required to gain admission to the church for the concerts. 3) No saving of seats. If you wish to sit with someone, you need to arrive and enter the church together, so our ushers can fill the rows efficiently. 4) Doors into the church will not open until one hour before each concert. This means 3:30 p.m. for the early 4:30 p.m. concert, and 6 p.m. for the later 7 p.m. concert. 5) Be in your seats 10 minutes prior to the concert or risk loosing your seat to stand-by people who did not pick up a ticket. 6) If you have tickets that you will not be using, please call Dwight Wages at 931-484-6939 ASAP, so that we can allow others to attend the concert.
For those who did not get tickets, the Southern Stars are sorry that the tickets ran out. As they do not expect to have a significant amount of tickets to be unused, they are suggesting that people look forward to their next concerts on Feb. 17 (Jason Ross of the Playhouse as guest artist), and April 20 (Nashville's Pete Huttlinger as guest artist) for an opportunity to jump on the bandwagon to hear the Southern Stars in concert. Tickets will go on sale for the winter concert in early January.

FFG Board signs contract to reduce goose population for health concerns
A solution to the over population of Canada geese in Fairfield Glade is being addressed by Fairfield Glade Board of Directors. The board signed a contract with USDA Wildlife Services to remedy the health concerns caused by the large number of geese that have made their home in the resort. A presentation at the Community Center conducted by District Supervisor Keith Blanton, USDA Wildlife Services, provided the FFG Board and members an overview of the health problems due to goose droppings and methods to get the problem under control. TVA and TWRA established Canada geese flocks in Tennessee in the 1960s and 1970s. Hunters take about 20,000 geese per year during the hunting season.

Fairfield Glade hosts Bucky Cantrell Tennis and Pickleball Classic
This past weekend the Racquet Sports Committee and William Taylor, the Racquet Sports Manager, hosted the largest number of players to enter our newly combined classic tournament. This was the first year for Pickleball and combined with the USTA sanctioned tennis tournament there were 84 participants.

Schlafer inducted into TSSAA Hall of Fame Class of 2013
By now you may have heard or read that the Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association Hall of Fame Class of 2013 includes our very own Cumberland County School Board Ninth District representative Dan Schlafer. The luncheon to induct the new members was held on Saturday, April 20 at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center in Murfreesboro.

Students of the Month honored at Lions Club meeting
The first May meeting was reserved by the Fairfield Glade Lions Club to honor this year’s “Students of the Month” and their families. Nine of the 10 students were able to attend. Dakota Tillman, from The Phoenix School, was unable to attend because of prior commitments. Dakota was selected and honored for the month of April.

Jean Redpath to headline Rugby Village Festival
World renowned Scottish Folk singer, Jean Redpath, will be just one highlight of this year’s 39th Annual Rugby Village Festival in Historic Rugby on May 17 and 18. This music and arts festival will take place in the restored Victorian village on East Tennessee’s Cumberland Plateau on State Scenic Highway 52. Festival hours will be Friday Noon – 6 p.m and Saturday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Eastern Time.
