The Fairfield Glade Community Club board of directors met on Nov. 14, and received the following committee and departmental reports.

Long Range Planning

Ron Levora of the Long Range Planning committee updated several items on the committee's plate.

• After an article regarding the desire for a dog park appeared in the Glade Sun, Levora received 122 phone calls from residents expressing their interest in having one. The item will be presented to the board again.

• A 10-year capital spending plan is to be presented to board members in January.

In answer to a question regarding the total number of new-member surveys the group received and based their 50 percent estimate of new members who are active golfers, Levora answered the number was 47 surveys in 2007. Miller replied that was a very low number. Candy Castle suggested the survey be printed in the newspaper so more people would have an opportunity to comment. Levora replied the survey is for new residents.

Fire

Pat Donohue, who was just re-elected chairman of the Volunteer Fire committee, said the last open house at the fire department drew around 300 visitors.

The department schedules two night training exercises. They have completed one of those training exercises and hope to finish another soon.

With the water shortages at present, the department has been reviewing the water regulations.

Donohue reminded those who burn wood in a fireplace to have their chimneys

cleaned and to be especially careful with candles.

Recreation

Recreation manager Sue Blevins finds her department $34,000 unfavorable to 2007 budget at the end of October, but they are $25,000 positive to October 2006. Bus tours have been great, yielding $23,000 net profit.

Arts and Crafts is expanding. This year they held a fall festival with Crab Orchard Elementary School participating. They plan to continue asking the school to be a part of the fall festival.

Both marinas are closed now. If you need a key, contact the Recreation Center. Both marinas finished ahead of 2006: St. George by $10,000 and Dartmoor by $27,000.

New tennis manager Ann Flynt has arrived. She plans a sale at the tennis pro shop in December. Drop by the Tennis Center and meet her.

The Christmas tree lighting ceremony is planned for 5 p.m. on Dec. 6. The ceremony will be more special with performances by the Crab Orchard children's choir, the Dulci-mores, bell ringers and more. Refreshments will be served at the Recreation Center.



Controller

Controller Regina Rector reported October totals that showed most accounts positive to budget and a total of $5,191,288 cash at the end of the month; $2,866,862 of that is restricted.

Rector continues work on the budgetary process for 2008 with the board of directors.

Chief Charlie Seiber reported October's public safety statistics:

Fire

During October, Fire Chief Bob Citkovic reported five incidents, including three false alarms; one each on Walden Circle, Brixton Ln., and Fairway Dr.

On Oct. 30, there was a chimney fire on Jasper Dr., and on Oct. 31, a grass fire on Peavine Rd. by the LST condominiums.

Meetings included three communication center meetings, lakes committee meeting, CCW safety talk at St. Francis Church, fire committee, fire department and the FGCC board meeting.

Three training events included firehouse safety and two hose testing sessions.

There were numerous miscellaneous events.

Most recently, the department provided mutual assistance with the Mountain Manor fire in Crossville.

Community Services

Jeff Warren noted that leaf pickup is continuing. Put plastic bags filled with leaves (only) on the curbside to be picked up.

An alternative has been found in regards to cleaning the lakes, which involves FGCC employees doing some of the work.

Liming of the lakes will be taking place also, in the hopes of breaking some of the nutrients free for the fish.

Repairs to the wastewater spray fields is essentially complete.

The sewer line will be extended along St. George Dr., in relation to sewer for the grocery store project. Peavine Road may actually be closed for a couple of days related to this project.

Food and beverage

Reservations are required for the Thanksgiving buffet at Legends. So, call soon.

Comments have been received indicating improvements in the service and food at recent banquets at Legends. Chip Brennan continues to work on the problem and on training staff. Brennan has recommended a raise in wages for Legends staff in order to avoid the high turnover rate; however, that may not be feasible, according to General Manager Harvey Hoffman.

Golf

Steve Kraft reported the golf department is slightly under budget with rounds. In October, total 18-hole equivalent paid rounds were 15,798; players serviced were 19,086.

Stacking FGCC courses against the state and national PGA averages found:

TN- 2,530

U.S. - 2,785

Fairfield Glade Courses; Druid- 5,130; Dorchester- 5,768; Heatherhurst (36 holes) 10,517.

"We are under budget, but its better than anticipated," said Kraft.

As for leaves, Kraft asked those living around the courses to please not blow their leaves on the course - "and we'll try not to blow our leaves on your property."

Hours on Thanksgiving Day: Golf shops will be open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. if the weather is good. If the weather is not good, they'll only be open to noon. Central Tee Tim will close at 11 a.m.
