Second mission tripi to Guadalajara is a blessing for all
Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church recently sponsored its second Volunteers in Mission (VIM) team to Guadalajara, Mexico. Many VIM team members were anxious to repeat their help for the ministries for Emmanuel Foundation of Guadalajara and help for the children of Casa Hogar Emmanuel Orphanage. Several volunteers made their first trip for this particular ministry.
VIM team members built much of the Casa Hogar Emmanuel Orphanage in February 2007. This year the project was completed with the construction of a residence for the orphanage director and his family, plus the purchase of a gas stove and all the necessities to make the kitchen ready for use. In addition, a 50-foot brick sidewalk was constructed between the director’s residence and the orphanage building. Other activities included miscellaneous plumbing repairs, work in the kitchen, and care of the children.
The VIM team members enjoyed a picnic in the park with the children, playing games, riding bikes, doing crafts, and being entertained by a clown. A special treat was the goodbye worship service that ended in a tearful foot washing ceremony. This was followed by a two-hour fiesta with singing, skits, dancing, and an all-American party of hot dogs, potato chips, Doritos, juices, and ice cream sundaes.
The 14 VIM team members who made the trip are Jorge Berrios, Tom Bowman, Marvin Hetrick, Joe and Carolyn Karl, Richard Edler, Pastor Max Mayo, Josh and Joanna Newberry, Curt and Paulette Richardson, Howard Robb, Sherry Weatherford, and Paul Wennermark.
