Members of the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church welcomed their new pastor, the Rev. Will Wells, and his wife, Pam, on June 22, arriving here from Savannah, TN. They served at this location for the past 10 years. According to Methodist protocol, pastors are assigned by the bishop each year. The Wells have two grown children, Jacob, who lives in Murfreesboro, and John, who will be graduating from Lambuth University, Jackson, TN in May 2009.

The Rev. Wells recalled the saying, "If you drink the water on the Cumberland Plateau, you will always come back." Evidently this is true, as this will be the third time they have lived on the Plateau. Will and Pam moved to Crossville after they were married, and he worked for TVA at the Watts Bar nuclear plant as an assistant unit operator. Then, after entering full-time ministry and completing seminary, he was appointed to the Homestead UMC where he served for two years. Thus, coming to the Glade UMC will mark their third venture to the Plateau.

The Rev. Wells received his B.A. degree from Lambuth College in 1977 and received his Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology, Emory University in 1990. In addition to Homestead, he served pastorates in Alexandria, TN; Barnesville, GA; and Lawrenceburg, TN. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, painting, reading and golf. Pam enjoys stitching, reading and the beach!

People ask, "Where is home?" Will notes this is a difficult question as he has roots in the midwestern Kansas and Nebraska, North Alabama (Russellville area) and Middle Tennessee (mostly Gallatin). For Pam the question is easier. She was born and raised in Nashville. It is only since Pam met Will that she has become a nomad!

Many social activities have been ongoing since their arrival, helping them to get acquainted with their tribe of over 900 members. The initial reaction has been good, and it is hoped many of you will want to make your acquaintance.

FG First Baptist Church all smiles as their 'ship comes in'
Fairfield Glade First Baptist Church was right in the path of the right-of-way for the new widening project for Peavine Road. With a new site selected and the new church building well under way, on Feb. 6, TDOT officially presented Fairfield Glade First Baptist Church a check for $1,435,550 for their property.

Betty Smith of Lake Tansi won a six-month membership for the Cumberland Medical Center Wellness Complex at Crossville because she successfully completed a Holiday Challenge to maintain or lose weight from Nov. 24 through Jan. 4.

ENJOYING NATURE: How ‘fur’ would you go to get a great coat?
I saw in one of the magazines, that I sometimes read, that the Tennessee Fur Harvesters Association was having a fur sale in Crossville. “Fur harvesters” is another word for trappers. Trappers try to catch fur bearing animals like coyote, mink, and beaver for fun and profit. I talked Gary into going with me to see what we could learn.
