"Rat Pack Tribute" headlines RHA's last program of 2008
With the inclusion of many exciting events planned for the concluding program of Resident Homeowners Association's (RHA) 2008 year, a large crowd is expected. The return of the "Rat Pack Tribute" at the Nov. 24 meeting will be yet another crowd pleaser featuring not only Dennis Donald and Rusty McClanahan but also Crossville’s own Daniel Black. The three performed together at the Cumberland County Playhouse in the production of Captains’ Courageous. Also on tap for this exciting evening will be the announcement of the 2008 Fairfield Glade Resident of the Year and the election of officers for 2009.
Following a two-year stint as president by Keith Pontius, Don DeBerry will be elected as president for 2009 and assisted by First Vice President Mary Coates. For the first time in six years, membership in RHA has topped 500, meals have greatly improved and the quality of programming has reached new heights. Residents who have never attended a RHA meeting are especially encouraged to come out and enjoy a fantastic evening at the Legends, as this new group of entertainers takes center stage. They will be doing a lot of your old time favorites, and it is rumored that yet another "celebrity" might join the trio that night.
As we close out a wonderful 2008 season, it is also necessary for us to urge everyone to either renew their membership for 2009, or sign up for the first time. A great lineup of entertainers have been booked for 2009, opening in January with Barney Fife, and in February with child prodigy Logan Murrell as she returns to us from Knoxville. Your dues provide the only funds that RHA has to bring you excellent entertainment, which is why we need you to sign up now. Where can you go for top entertainment for just $1 per event?
Dues for 2009 will be $12 per person, but until Jan. 1 you can sign up for $10 by signing up at the Nov. 24 meeting, or by mailing your check to RHA, Box 2017, Fairfield Glade, TN 38558. Note that RHA meets the fourth Monday of each month except May when we meet on the third Tuesday due to Memorial Day. There is no meeting in December. RHA is the oldest organization in Fairfield Glade, serving as a cultural event for residents to enjoy a “fun” evening socializing with friends and neighbors. The menu for November will feature oven-roasted turkey medallions with cranberry glaze.
The first Rat Pack Tribute was performed at the Palace Theatre with critical acclaim to a sell-out crowd. By popular demand, an Encore Tribute was performed at the Palace last August with a larger cast to a two-night sold-out audience.
Since his appearance last September, Donald has formed the non-profit performing arts organization, DSquared Productions.
One of DSquared’s discoveries was Rusty McClanahan. McClanahan is a graduate of the General Motors Institute and Xavier (MBA) and a retiree of the automotive industry. After several appearances with Dennis and DSquared, Rusty has become an audience favorite.
Daniel Black needs little or no introduction to Crossville area folks. Black has been a part of the Cumberland County Playhouse family for over a decade. He is a tremendous talent as an actor, singer, dancer, musician (guitar, mandolin, banjo, bass) and now as a director.
These three performers will give 110 percent during their show. Their tight harmonies, crowd-pleasing antics and musical talent will leave you begging for more. This “Rat Pack” will keep the show fresh and you can expect the unexpected.
For a wonderful night out, reserve Nov. 24 for RHA at the Legends. Call in for reservations on Nov. 17 to Carolyn Slack, at 484-0864, or Charlene Richardson, at 456-0148. Social hour is from 5-6 p.m., with dinner at 6 p.m. Men are requested to wear jackets and we encourage everyone to wear a name badge. Meals are $17 per person.
To make a late reservation, or to avoid being billed for a cancellation, call before noon on Thursday, Nov. 22, to Charlene Richardson. Your support will be greatly appreciated.

FROM THE DESK OF: Budget committee's tax rate/budget recommendation is rejected by commission
At this month’s regular full County Commission meeting, the resolution to establish the tax rate for Fiscal Year 2010-2011 was defeated with 6 yes votes and 12 no votes. Without an approved tax rate, discussion of the budget appropriations was futile since there is no levy to pay for the proposed expenditures.

PATCHES OF LIFE: You’re full of beans
I stepped on the scale and it read 102,912 beans. I had never wondered what I weighed in beans, but I recall being told at one time I was full of beans. I really don’t know if the scale was accurate and I did have my shoes on so it may be a bean or two off.
