A storm canceled the golf on May 9 for the seventh annual Wayne Benson Charity Golf Tournament, but a good time was had by all at the Fairfield Glade Methodist Church pavilion. Everyone scheduled to play golf allowed their entry fees to go towards the building fund of the Bread of Life. We collected over $3,000 for its program.
In the pavilion, the United Methodist Men set up the luncheon, which included beans and drinks to go with the delicious subs, chips, and cookies provided by 5th Avenue Deli. The gifts donated by local merchants were then given out to those in attendance, and everyone was asked to personally thank the merchants.
Mary Nell Benson expressed much appreciation to the group. Over the seven years the tournament has been in existence, a total of $20,000 has been raised in memory of her husband and donated to local charities. Anyone interested in serving on the tournament committee next year is asked to contact Mary Runfeldt, Hazel Robinson, Russ Reith, or Curt Richardson, all members of this year's committee.
