Glade church to welcome O’Brien July 5

Dr. Randall O’Brien, president of Carson-Newman College will speak on Sunday, July 5, at Fairfield Glade First Baptist Church, at all of the three worship services: 8 a.m., 9:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Dr. O’Brien is an author of many books and publications. He is a Harvard graduate and holds a Master of Sacred Theology from Yale Divinity School and a Dr. of Theology degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He has held many lectures including, “What to Look For in a College” and “The Vietnam War: Up Close and Personal.”

A decorated Vietnam veteran, Dr. O’Brien received the Bronze Star while serving in the 101st Airborne Division.

All Carson-Newman alumni, Cumberland County students attending Carson-Newman College and all prospective students who may be considering attending Carson-Newman College are invited to attend any of the three worship services on July 5.

All Vietnam veterans in Cumberland County will be recognized at these patriotic services. The public is invited to attend.

    In 2010 Congress began dedicating the entire month of February to Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month, a national effort to raise awareness about abuse in youth relationships and promote programs intended to help youth with teen dating violence issues. Throughout February, individuals and many organizations nationwide highlight the need to educate young people about healthy relationships, teach healthy relationship skills and prevent the devastating cycle of abuse.

    I saw in one of the magazines, that I sometimes read, that the Tennessee Fur Harvesters Association was having a fur sale in Crossville. “Fur harvesters” is another word for trappers. Trappers try to catch fur bearing animals like coyote, mink, and beaver for fun and profit. I talked Gary into going with me to see what we could learn.
