RHA to name 2012 Resident of the Year

CROSSVILLE — Regina Stephens, a highly touted local performer and known by many around, will thrill the crowd with her beautiful voice on Nov. 26 at the Fairfield Glade Resident Homeowners final meeting of it’s 39th year at the Legends, starting at 6 p.m. According to Dennis Donald of DSquared Productions, Regina assists in mentoring the younger, less experienced performers and is well respected by them. Her professionalism and graciousness  is extremely appreciated, as noted at the USO Show at the Palace Theatre Nov. 11.

In a last minute change, Jason Sanders, a newly found artist from Carthage, will be assisting Regina at the piano. He was among the performers at the recent Malt Shop show at the Event Center and was enthusiastically received for his performance there. He is the Minister of Music for the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and also assistant band director for Gordonsville High School. He also plays the fiddle, has won fiddler contests, and is available for any private parties you may want to have.

Another highlight of the evening will be the unveiling of the 5th recipient of the Glade Citizen of the Year, started in 2008 to recognize one that has contributed much to the success of this community, helping to make this a great community in which to live.

RHA is open to all residents of Fairfield Glade and we want to openly invite all of you to come and see the beauty of this group. Meal cost is $17, including tax and tip, and dues are only $10 for the year if paid by Dec. 31, 2012. Plan to come and meet your neighbors, enjoy a great meal of grilled ham steak, and a wonderful program. Your dues are the only monies that the group has to provide the entertainment, but we are so blessed to have an abundance of excellent entertainers in our area at very reasonable prices. This is what makes this such a great community to live in, and they do enjoy our support.

Also, as a part of this closing event for 2012, President Randy Budd will be handing over the gavel to the 2013 president, Dennis Donald, and an official  election will be held for the 2013 officers. Again, it is your support of this oldest organization in the Glade that makes RHA such a special group.

President-elect Dennis will be officially announcing most of his programs for 2013. All programs are new and promise to be of a very high quality. You will be glad to be a part of it. Starting off the new year will be Brian Bacon Jan. 28, Music Director for the local Catholic Church and Conductor of the Cumberland County Community Band; Terri Utsey, a charming young lady from Rockwood who has quickly become a favored performer; Terry Henderson from Lima, Ohio, who is now one of the areas favorites; Patrice Puglise, another who has been performing since 1971 with a wonderful repertoire and a wonderful story to tell; Keith Walther, publisher and editor of the Glade Vista who will surprise you with his “Voice of Vegas;” Jason Sanders listed above and Aaron Wilbourn, musician/singer/song writer/comedian.

All in all, you can see that we have a great year ahead. 2012 has also been very good, but we hope that even more of you will join RHA for next year. It is for you, and it is your participation that makes it what it is.

If unavailable to attend this meeting, you can join by sending your dues to RHA, Box 2017, Fairfield Glade, TN 38558.

Note that RHA meets the fourth Monday of each month except May and December. A couple of programs are yet to be confirmed, but there will something good and different at each meeting.

To take advantage of this year-end closing event, call in your reservations by Nov. 21 to June or Larrilee Frazier at 484-5914, or email to jlfrazier1946@frontiernet.net. It is requested that you pay for your meals by check at the door. Men are requested to wear jackets, but it is not mandatory, and everyone is asked to wear a name badge so others can learn to know you. If you don’t have a badge, the ladies at the door will fix you up, or you can order a special RHA badge at the meeting.

In addition, if you want to make up your own table of six or eight, you may do that when you make reservations. If not, you will be assigned to an open table. A Social Hour begins at 5 p.m. and dinner is at 6 p.m. See you Nov. 26!

  • FFG Board signs contract to reduce goose population for health concerns

A solution to the over population of Canada geese in Fairfield Glade is being addressed by Fairfield Glade Board of Directors. The board signed a contract with USDA Wildlife Services to remedy the health concerns caused by the large number of geese that have made their home in the resort. A presentation at the Community Center conducted by District Supervisor Keith Blanton, USDA Wildlife Services, provided the FFG Board and members an overview of the health problems due to goose droppings and methods to get the problem under control. TVA and TWRA established Canada geese flocks in Tennessee in the 1960s and 1970s. Hunters take about 20,000 geese per year during the hunting season.
