City skate park makes a radical opening
The Crossville Skate Park celebrated its grand opening last Saturday, complete with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Officials present included Crossville Mayor J.H. Graham III, Frank McClung with the Crossville Skate Park Association, councilman Carl Duer, Steve Hill with the City of Crossville Parks and Recreation and city clerk Sally Oglesby. According to McClung the Crossville Skate Park is the largest of its kind on the Plateau.
"Cookeville does not have a skate park…so you really have to go to Nashville or Knoxville to see something this large," he said. McClung led a walkthrough of what has been christened the "Thunderdome," while skateboarders showed off their skills.
He explained an expansion project is in the works, which will cost $126,800 and include a bowl, half pipe, large bank and stairs. As for now, BMX riders and skaters are looking forward to a BMX/skate competition on July 25, starting at 4 p.m. For more information, visit crossvilleskatepark.com.
