Register now for first Komen Golf Capital Classic tourney

CROSSVILLE — Registration is now open for the inaugural Susan G. Komen Golf Capital Classic, set for Sept. 29 at Bear Trace Golf Course, named Tennessee’s best public course for 2012 by GolfWeek Magazine.

“You can see the impact Susan G. Komen has made on the lives of women in our community,” said Marty Lewis, tournament chairperson. “Seventy-five cents of every dollar raised stays right here in the Upper Cumberland to support grants that help uninsured or underinsured women get mammograms they might otherwise do without.”

The tournament will support fundraising efforts for Komen Upper Cumberland, which serves Cumberland and 13 surrounding counties.

The two-person scramble includes a putting contest with the winner getting a chance to sink a 50-foot putt for a prize worth thousands. Other prizes include hole-in-one, long drive, accuracy drive and closest to the pin prizes and one lucky player will have a chance to win $1 million.

In addition to wonderful prizes, the grand champions of the tournament will be presented champion’s blazers during the awards ceremony.

The night before, golfers and guests will enjoy a kick-off event at The Bear Trace Club House. There will be a team auction, live auction and silent auction with a variety of items, including sporting equipment and golf-related items along with original works of art by area artists.

The entry fee is $300 per team and includes greens fees, a new pair of FootJoy golf shoes, food and beverages during the tournament.

Komen Upper Cumberland currently supports the free mammogram program at Cumberland Medical Center, a program that has served more than 240 women since it began in 2010. The free mammograms offer access to life-saving diagnostic care to women who are over 40 and have no insurance. In addition to the free mammograms, the grant supports education efforts to let women know how important regular screenings are in the fight to end breast cancer.

Sponsors for the first Susan G. Komen Golf Capital Classic include Peak Fitness, Peg Broadcasting, Cancun Mexican Restaurant, Crossville Heating and Cooling, Cumberland Computing, Mountain Motors, GiGi’s Boutique, Rocky Top 10 Cinema, AC Electric and Refrigeration, Salon Vintage, The Beef and Barrel Restaurant, Cumberland Mountain Lawn and Landscaping, Crossville Hydraulics and Crossville Ceramics.

The tournament committee is also offering a chance for the community to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure and honor loved ones who have battled cancer, with special plaques in memory of loved ones or in honor of survivors. Those names will also be on display at the first and 18th hole during the tournament and plaques will be kept on display at the CMC Breast Center during the year. Contact Lewis at 335-0501 or 200-0553, or email martylewis60@yahoo.com to reserve a space on the memorial and survivor plaques and banners. For more information visitwww.eventcaddies.com,
