A Snapshot of Lake Tansi

Try the monthly recreation dinners at the Thunderbird

As a fairly new resident of Tansi Village, I am discovering all sorts of wonderful things about our new home area. I hope to share some of my discoveries with you in this column every month.

One of Tansi's best kept secrets are the recreation department's dinners at the Thunderbird on select Fridays. Check your monthly calendar for dates. The first one I attended was Sept. 4, and it was a pork goulash dinner. The cost was only $5. It consisted of goulash on noodles, peas, Jell-O, rolls and butter, beverage, and even dessert. The recreation department folks cook the food, which, I might add, was very delish! During dinner, they had a door prize drawing (free ticket with purchase of dinner), and they also have a split club drawing. All the proceeds go back to the recreation department to fund their activities. After dinner, they had bingo. The bingo is free! You can win cash prizes in bingo. I actually won $10. I am not a bingo player, so I was happy that everyone there was so friendly and they explained things so I would understand.

After bingo, they have horse races. They draw your name out of a hat and you get a horse to move around a giant board on the floor. The dice that are thrown detemine your number of steps. Unfortunately, my horse did not feel like going very fast that evening, but I enjoyed it anyway. The next dinner is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 25, at 4:30 p.m.; bingo begins at 6 p.m. Sept. 25's dinner is herbed spare ribs. you can come for dinner, just bingo, or both. I'll be there — hope you will be too.

While you are there, wander across the hall into the recreation department's mini store. They have great Lake Tansi T-shirts for only $7.50. You can also buy hats, coolers, cup holders, and many other Tansi items. They make great gifts!
