Police, THP planning sobriety checkpoints during holiday weekend

The Crossville Police Department will be conducting sobriety enforcement checkpoints throughout the city of Crossville beginning July 3 at 4 p.m. These checkpoints will be on Hwy. 127, Hwy. 70, State Route 392, Lantana Rd. and Genesis Rd.

The Crossville Police Department will be paying special attention to the impaired driver, unrestrained occupants, violations of child restraint laws and other traffic related violations. These efforts make the highways safer for all and are partially funded by the Governor's Highway Safety Office.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be conducting a sobriety roadside safety checkpoint in Cumberland County July 4, beginning at about 10 p.m.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol recognizes that sobriety checkpoints are highly visible and effective tools in the battle against impaired driving.

Impaired driving is a serious crime that kills more than 16,000 people and injures more than 35,000 others every year in the United States. Troopers will evaluate drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment and will target those who operate a vehicle while impaired. Troopers will take corrective actions for other violations observed while ensuring the protection of all motorists.
