CROSSVILLE —
An Ohio man suffered a gunshot wound after a gun his father was cleaning accidentally discharged, sending the victim to the hospital, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department.
No charges have been filed and the shooting is believed to be accidental, according to Deputy Avery Aytes' report.
Aytes and Cpl. Tim Tutor were dispatched to the 3200 block of Pomona Rd. around 8:19 p.m. Saturday and were met by Danny Cantwell, 69, who told them he had been cleaning one of two handguns he had in the kitchen when the gun discharged.
Cantwell said he did not realize the weapon had a bullet in the chamber, Tutor wrote in his report, when the .357 caliber handgun fired one wound into the lower right leg of his son, Jon Albert Cantwell, 44, of Hamilton, OH.
Cantwell was transported by ambulance to Cumberland Medical Center's emergency room where he was treated and later released.
Investigator Scott Griffin was dispatched to the scene to investigate the incident.
