CROSSVILLE —
William Douglas Wynn was scheduled to face a jury Wednesday in what was expected to be a two to three-day trial on a vehicular homicide by intoxication charge for the December 2010 death of a Crossville man.
Late Tuesday, state prosecutors and defense attorney Jeff Vires reached a tentative agreement calling for Wynn to plead guilty in exchange for an eight-year prison sentence with Judge David Patterson to determine how that sentence would be served.
Wynn failed to appear to enter his plea on Wednesday, and was nowhere to be found. A bail bondsman and deputies traveled to Wynn's home and found his vehicle there. A search of the residence failed to locate the defendant.
Patterson issued a capias warrant and tentative bond forfeiture and ordered that Wynn be held without bond pending an appearance before the court, once the defendant is located.
Wynn, whose address at the time of the fatal crash was listed on Buena Vista Dr., was charged in the wreck that claimed the life of Paul Jensen, 78, of Colby Circle. Jensen's wife, Shirley, was seriously injured in the crash, as was a third motorist, Rebecca Day of Mockingbird Dr.
Tennessee State Troopers reported that Wynn was driving a 2006 Ford Expedition that had exited the VFW Club's parking lot and drove south on Hwy. 127 when it crossed the center line near the Bob Tollett Rd. intersection and struck the Jensens' vehicle. Wynn's vehicle then struck a van driven by Day.
