CROSSVILLE —
Now that the Cumberland County landfill closure is near completion, county commissioners have determined it best to transfer assets and liabilities from the landfill fund into the sanitation fund.
During Monday night's Cumberland County Commission meeting, commissioners approved resolution 06-2012-10 transferring the assets and liabilities into the sanitation fund.
Earlier this year, Cumberland County closed its landfill and has been using a solid waste transfer station since last fall. The closure process on the landfill is nearly complete and commissioners on the county's Budget Committee reviewed and recommended the plan since the landfill is no longer generating revenue for the county.
As of June 30, 2012 the assets and liabilities of the landfill fund are to be transferred into the Cumberland County Sanitation fund and the landfill fund will be closed.
According to the resolution, "Fixed assets of the Landfill Fund are to be incorporated into the general government assets. Any unobligated loan proceeds that are held in the Landfill Fund shall be transferred to the Debt Service Fund and used to retire debt. This process is a coordinated effort of the county mayor, solid waste director and Cumberland County Finance Director."
The resolution was approved unanimously after Harry Sabine, 1st District commissioner, moved to approve.
Sabine's motion was supported by Johnny Presley, 3rd District commissioner.
Mike Harvel, 7th District commissioner, who also works for the Cumberland County Solid Waste Department, abstained from the vote.
