The Cumberland County Board of Education is preparing for its annual evaluation of Director of Schools Aarona VanWinkle.

During Thursday's meeting, the BOE approved an evaluation sheet provided by the Tennessee School Boards Association. Board members will complete the evaluation and it will be mailed to TSBA. TSBA will compile the comments and scores and present an evaluation to the board and the public in the coming months.

The evaluation measures the director's performance across a range of activities, from acting as spokesperson for the school system and developing good staff morale, to creating a harmonious relationship with the board and executing BOE policies.

Dan Schlafer, 9th District representative, moved to approve the evaluation form, supported by Mary Smith, 7th District representative. The motion was unanimously approved.

The board also approved the second and final reading of changes to the payroll procedures policy. Personnel will be paid on the 15th and last day of each month. Certified personnel have the option of being paid 20 or 24 times each year. If a pay period falls on a non-working day, employees will be paid on the last working day prior to the pay period, but will be dated to coincide with the end of the pay period. If schools are not in session, checks will be available at the Central Office.

If an employee retires or resigns, final salary payment will be withheld until all records and school system property in custody of the employee are returned to the school system. Specific approval by the BOE is required for payroll deductions, except as allowed by law.

In other business, Quineth Roberts was approved as a volunteer at Cumberland County High School for the remainder of the school year and inventory retirement using a new electronic inventory control system was also approved.
