CROSSVILLE —
A Crossville man told police that he was stabbed in the hand by a man who was demanding the cigarette out of his mouth, police report.
George Richard Griffith Jr., 33, of Brown Ave., was treated at Cumberland Medical Center for a knife wound to the hand that he suffered when the unidentified assailant slashed at him with a knife and he attempted to block the attack.
Griffith told Ptl. Mitchell Phipps that he was walking through the parking lot of an unoccupied building on W. Adams St. around 9 a.m. Monday when he was approached by a man who asked for a cigarette.
Griffith said he told the man he did not have any more, and the man responded by saying, "You have one," referring to the cigarette Griffith was smoking. The victim stated he then told the man to keep walking and that he turned to walk away.
Upon hearing footsteps behind him, the victim turned in time to see the assailant in a swinging motion with the knife in his hand. After being cut, Griffith reportedly ran to Cumberland Medical Center where he obtained emergency care. Police responded to the emergency room to take a statement from the victim, but were unable to locate the man who did the attack.
The man was described as being about six-foot, one-inch in height, slightly overweight, unshaven with brown hair. He was wearing jeans and a white T-shirt.
