County commissioners serving on the building and grounds committee approved some final additions to the Cumberland County Health Department after a recommendation was made by the architect on the project.
Kim Chamberlin, architect with Upland Design Group, gave a presentation to the committee last week and said there were a few last additions that were important to add to the project.
"Essentially, the building is done and ready to go. We're still waiting on the substantial completion date for the certificate of occupancy, but there are few items that are final details that need to be taken care of and I just wanted to get the county's blessing on these," Chamberlin said.
Chamberlin said there was additional electrical power in the dental wing for a storage room that needed to be added at a cost of $1,263.71; a plaque naming where the federal grant funding for the facility came from at a cost of $500; power to four hand dryers at an added cost of $621; a door bell on the back dock at a cost of $250; some electrical breaker box locks that were required to be added; an additional mirror; and testing allowance overage cost of $1,715.
"These are all things that need to be done," Chamberlin said.
The costs will be covered in the contingency funds that were built into the project. There was a total of $80,000 in contingency funds.
The additions were unanimously approved.
Landscaping around the new sign at the front of the building was discussed at a cost of $2,000, but was left out for the county to determine at a later date in the spring.
"I know we need to do this, but did anyone check with the (Master) gardeners? They might be willing to do this, or we can have it done ourselves. I think we could get it done for less than $2,000," Mike Harvel, 7th District commissioner said.
Chamberlin said the total spent of the contingency funds was $37,683.46.
"That's less than one percent on the entire project and we're pretty proud of that. The remaining funds of the contingency money goes back to the county," Chamberlin said.
Officials with the Cumberland County Health Department have a target date of Jan. 22, 2013, for opening the county’s new facility on Hwy. 127 S.
