CROSSVILLE —
A suspicious gas station clerk who jotted down the tag number of a customer who made him feel uneasy led authorities to the man they suspect robbed a Crossville pain clinic last Thursday. Now that man is also suspected of being involved in a Putnam County robbery.
Deddric Anjuan Polk, 34, 615 Page Rd., Clarkrange, is charged with armed robbery of a pain clinic located on Hwy. 127 N, just south of I-40 that occurred last Thursday just after 4 p.m., according to Ptl. Dustin Lester's report.
Since his arrest, the Cookeville Herald-Citizen has reported that evidence is being prepared for presentation to the Putnam County Grand Jury in hopes of indicting Polk for the robbery of the 3D Financial store on S. Jefferson Ave. on Thursday, Jan. 12. Cookeville Police have placed a hold on Polk, who is currently housed in the Justice Center in Crossville.
In the Cookeville robbery, a man entered the store and told the female clerk he had a gun and wanted all the money in the business. After getting money, the gunman told the clerk to sit down and stay seated until he was gone.
In the Crossville robbery last week, a man entered the pain clinic and told a female receptionist that he had something for her. He handed her a piece of paper that read he had a gun and wanted money. The receptionist responded that she did not have any cash on hand and that all transactions were by credit card or check.
The robber then demanded to see the paper transactions and grabbed several from the reciptionist's hands before threatening to shoot the clerk and then backing out the door.
Police responded to the scene and Lester wrote that he checked with a nearby Shell station to see if anyone had observed anything during the robbery. A clerk there told Lester that about 15 minutes prior to the robbery, a man fitting the physical and clothing description of the bandit had been in the station, talking about how bad things were going in his life.
The man made the statement that he was "thinking about robbing someone." The statement made the clerk feel uneasy and he recorded the license plate of a Dodge Intrepid the suspect was driving, which led to the identity of the suspect.
Fentress County sheriff's deputies were notified and located the vehicle and the suspect at his Clarkrange home. He was taken into custody and returned to Cumberland County where he was questioned by Dets. Danny Harris and J.C. Hancock and formally charged with the local robbery.
