An Ohio man charged with criminal simulation in connection with a counterfeit $100 bill passed in Cumberland County is now one of three persons facing similar charges in Fentress County.
Randolph "Randy" Proffitt, 44, of Hamilton, OH, is now charged with passing bogus bills in Fentress and Overton counties in addition to Cumberland County.
Also charged is Jalina Lang and Robert Hall, both of Hamilton, OH.
The same week Proffitt was arrested by Crossville Police, Jamestown Police and Fentress County Sheriff's Department found themselves dealing with bogus $100 bills in that county.
A call from Murphy USA Oil led police to Lang who was taken into custody by investigators from both departments. The investigation then led to Hall who was taken into custody on July 28. By that time a total of nine counterfeit bills had been recovered from the three counties.
The Secret Service was contacted and joined in the investigation and authorities were able to locate and seize equipment used to make the bogus bills.
Hall was taken to Nashville by federal authorities and then returned to Ohio to face a parole violation charge.
The other two remain charged locally in the three counties.
