CROSSVILLE —
A Cumberland County woman is facing charges relating to possessing methamphetamine and exposing her four young children to the illegal drug two days in a row, and the investigation has spread to include the Department of Children's Services.
Rose Mary Martin, 29, 3967 Potato Farm Rd., faces two charges of manufacture, delivery or sale of methamphetamine and four counts of child abuse/neglect, according to arrest reports.
Deputy Dustin Hensley was on routine patrol last Friday around 6 p.m. when he observe a black Ford Explorer traveling in the area of Hwy. 127 N at Bowman Loop with one headlight out.
He stopped the vehicle and made contact with Martin, who was accompanied by her four small children, ages 7 to 10.
The resulting search of the vehicle yielded a small plastic bag containing a white substance and weighing 1.8 grams that deputies identified as methamphetamine. Martin was taken into custody and charged with endangering the children and with possession the meth and was placed under $43,000 bond.
The next day around 2:30 p.m. a DCS worker, accompanied by Deputy Chuck Hennessee, went to Martin's Potato Farm Rd. home to do a welfare check on the four children. No one was home and Martin was still incarcerated, unable to make bond.
When trying to make contact with someone at the address, Hennessee walked to the side of the house to a camper and knocked on the door. Wind blew the door open and he observed on a counter in the camper a CD case with a white powdery substance inside.
Sgt. Jason Elmore, Cpl. Jeff Turner and Investigator Jeff Slayton were dispatched to the scene and a search warrant executed. As a result of the search, numerous items relating to methamphetamine, including two small plastic bags, were seized.
A new charge of possession of methamphetamine for resale was filed with a $20,000 bond set in that case.
A second warrant was issued but not served in connection with the second incident.
Martin is to appear in Cumberland County General Sessions Court on March 25 to answer the charges.

Record rainfall floods county
A record rainfall event Sunday flooded city streets and county roads and sent water flowing into some businesses and some homes in Crossville. There were also several reports of houses being struck by lightning in the city and the county. There were no injuries reported in Cumberland County.

The Cumberland County Veterans Council will sponsor a Memorial Day Ceremony Monday, May 27, 2013, at the Cumberland County Memorial Veterans Park across the street from the Cumberland County Courthouse. The Ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. There will be a guest singer and special guest speakers during the event.

Crossville dog park moving along
The City of Crossville Dog Park at the back of Centennial Park is moving ahead. Some grading has been done in preparation for the installation of the fencing. A water line will be brought over to the park from the restrooms in the nearby picnic area, making it easier for owners to provide fresh water for their pets while they are exercising in the park.

Cumberland County attorney Randal Boston was requested by the Health and Safety Standards Board to send a letter of violation and cleanup to Bank of America in regard to an abandoned, dilapidated property in the Breckenridge neighborhood.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation has filed a lawsuit against the owner of an apartment complex in Lake Tansi Village alleging failure of a subsurface sewage disposal system and seeking to force connection of the apartments to the available Tansi Sewer Utility District sewer service.
