CROSSVILLE —
Questions from a teenage boy raised suspicions of a homeowner who asked his son to keep an eye on his home while away at church. The son nabbed a burglar in the act, which turned out to be the same teenager.
Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a Hwy. 70 N residence near the Putnam County line on Oct. 14. Deputies were alerted to a suspect being held at gunpoint.
When Deputy Ron Moore arrived on the scene, he found a 17-year-old nearby resident being held by the son of a property owner at the scene. Also on the scene was a Putnam County sheriff's deputy who also responded to the call.
Moore was told that the homeowner became concerned when the teenager asked him several times about when he went to church and when he returned home. The resident asked his son to watch his home while he was at church.
On Oct. 14, the son spotted a youth walking down the road, and then turning into the driveway of his father's home. When the teen raised a garage door and entered, the son pulled a handgun on the suspect and called police.
The teen was cited into Juvenile Court on charges of aggravated burglary and possession of burglary tools.

BOE panel considers $5.8 million in building upgrades
Nearly $5.8 million in renovations will be presented Thursday afternoon during the Cumberland County Board of Education’s monthly meeting. Designs for the Cumberland County High School football stadium renovation and additions to North Cumberland and Crab Orchard elementary schools are among the projects to be discussed.

The policy committee of the Cumberland County Board of Education is tabling action on its attendance policy as members struggle to find an appropriate solution for students over the age of 18 that miss excessive amounts of school.

TDOT OKs BSF visitor center bid
After nearly a decade of planning, discussions, several changes of members on the county commission and rejected bids, the Gateway to the Big South Fork Visitor’s Center project will move forward after the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) sent a letter to Cumberland County Mayor Kenneth Carey Jr. informing him the project was approved.

"It has been a year of ups and downs, and it has been a little frustrating. The seniors went through a lot of adversity this season. Today, there are just five seniors left from that (year's) freshmen class.
