Two Putnam County women were seriously — one critically — in a single-vehicle crash on a rural Cumberland County road Saturday afternoon, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Jenna Stultz, 32, of Cookeville, is the most seriously injured of the two. Also treated in a regional trauma unit is Misty Stultz, 28, of Monterey, according to Trooper Jack Alderman.
The crash occurred on Jim Garrett Rd. near Mayland around 2:20 p.m. when a 2002 Acura traveling south left the road on the right side, over corrected and spun out of control, slamming into a ditch and going airborne, flipping over four or five times, Alderman said.
Both occupants were ejected from the vehicle and who was driving has not been determined, Alderman said.
"We are still investigating the crash and we have a couple of witnesses we need to talk to before we can say for sure who the driver was," Alderman said.
THP's Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) is assisting in the investigation, which is continuing, Alderman said.
Both victims were airlifted from near the scene and flown to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga where Misty Stultz is showing some signs of improvement but Jenna Stultz remains in very critical condition.
