CROSSVILLE —
The Governor's Conference on Tourism was held in Sevierville on Sept. 19-21. During the conference, the 2011 study was released by the Research Department of the U.S. Travel Association for the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development. Ashley Allen and Glenn McDonald attended the conference.
According to the study, Cumberland County ranks #1 in the Upper Cumberland region once again. Cumberland County had a total of $100.3 million in expenditures, and ranks Cumberland County 17th out of 95 counties in the state.
Cumberland County also had the highest payroll expenditures in the Upper Cumberland region, with $21.64 million. In 2011, Cumberland County employed 930 residents in tourism. The Upper Cumberland includes Cannon, Clay, DeKalb, Fentress, Jackson, Macon, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, Smith, Van Buren, Warren and White counties. In other regions, Cumberland County had expenditure percentages similar to Bradley County ($112.12 million) and Sumner County ($105.40 million).
Crossville-Cumberland County Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Beth Alexander said, “While the results do indicate the economic stress our country is in, we are encouraged by the increase in some numbers over the past two years. This study shows that people all over the United States still find value in the assets Crossville and Cumberland County has to offer.”
The study provides preliminary 2011 estimates of domestic and international traveler expenditures in Tennessee, as well as the employment, payroll income and tax revenue directly generated by this spending.

Crossville dog park moving along
The City of Crossville Dog Park at the back of Centennial Park is moving ahead. Some grading has been done in preparation for the installation of the fencing. A water line will be brought over to the park from the restrooms in the nearby picnic area, making it easier for owners to provide fresh water for their pets while they are exercising in the park.

Suit seeks to force sewer connection
The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation has filed a lawsuit against the owner of an apartment complex in Lake Tansi Village alleging failure of a subsurface sewage disposal system and seeking to force connection of the apartments to the available Tansi Sewer Utility District sewer service.
