Probationer among trio nabbed in meth lab probe

A Crossville Police detective and Cumberland County Sheriff's investigator seeking a person of interest in a joint-investigation not only got their man, but also arrested two others including one man on state probation after discovering a clandestine methamphetamine lab in a parked vehicle.

Charged with promotion of the manufacture of methamphetamine, burglary, possession of hydrocodone and possession of drug paraphernalia is John Charles Teague, 23, Iron Horse Rd., Apt. H-102. Bond was set at $8,500 and he is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on Monday.

Charged with promotion of the manufacture of methamphetamine is Briana N. Teague, 19, of the same address. Her bond was set at $5,000.

Ricky Dewayne Young, 24, 45 Town Branch Rd., is charged with initiation of the process to manufacture meth and possession of a schedule II drug. No bond was set for him. The Public Defender's Office is representing him and after a brief appearance Monday, his case was continued to April 8.

On March 1 Young was indicted on charges of aggravated burglary, theft more than $60,000, two counts of reckless endangerment and two counts of felony evading arrest.

According to the report, Young is also on probation for burglary and theft.

It all took place March 10 when Det. Kendall Hargis and Investigator Bo Kollros traveled to an Iron Horse Dr. address in Lake Tansi in search of a Teague for questioning in an undisclosed investigation. They did not find Teague but they did observe a 1997 Jeep Cherokee parked in front of the apartment with methamphetamine lab components in plain view.

No one was at the residence so the two investigators decided to observe activity around the vehicle from a distance and after a short time a small red car with no hubcaps stopped next to the Jeep with several people exiting the vehicle.

One of the persons, Ricky Dewayne Young, 24, opened the driver's door of the Jeep, causing the officers to approach and detain three adults. Beside him was Teague, holding a paper bag.

The other person detained was Briana N. Teague.

Investigators allege they discovered 12 hydrocodone pills on John Teague and four syringes in the paper bag he was holding.

Young told investigators that the Jeep had been left unlocked all day and someone had put the lab in his Jeep. However, investigators state they found the vehicle locked.

A drug detection dog brought to the scene alerted on the small red car belonging to the Teagues and a resulting search found stripped matchbooks along with items believed to have been stolen.

A search warrant of the Teague residence resulted in several items reported stolen in local burglaries being recovered, along with drugs and drug paraphernalia, according to Kollros' report.

The three were then taken into custody and formally charged.
