An East Tennessee man lost his life in this crash on rain-slickened Peavine Rd. between Fairfield Glade and Hebbertsburg around 12:20 a.m. Thursday, according to Trooper Jason Winningham of the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Alwyn N. Haliburton, 51, Maynardville, was traveling away from Fairfield when he lost control of his 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe in a curve just before the bridge over Daddy's Creek. The vehicle left the road, struck two trees, rolled on its side with the roof slamming into a third tree. Cumberland County Fire Department and Sheriff's Department responded along with the ambulance service. It took approximately 45 minutes to extricate the victim from the wreckage. According to Winningham's report, alcohol may have been a factor in the crash and a test has been requested.
