Crossville Housing Authority sponsors homeownership fair Oct. 27
With all the publicity on homeownership problems recently, some people may think that homeownership is not the good investment it once was.
But homeownership remains one of the best ways that a family can invest their money in a valuable asset that can bring not only good financial returns but also the pride of having home that is yours!
The Cumberland County Housing Task Force, Crossville Housing Authority (CHA) and several local agencies that provide homeownership services have put together an evening of information on what kinds of programs are available to help someone who wants to become a home owner. Most of these programs are designed to meet the needs of low-income families.
This event will be held Tuesday Oct. 27, starting at 6 p.m. at the CHA center meeting room next door to the CHA offices on Irwin Avenue.
Some of the programs to be highlighted include the Crossville Housing Authority’s New Beginnings mutual self help program which works to help families get government financing with no down payment and adds sweat equity to help families be able to move into a home worth more than the amount borrowed.
A representative of Rural Development, a branch of the US Department of Agriculture, will be at the Homeownership Fair to explain about their home mortgage programs and Creative Compassion has a number of ways they can help families become homeowners. Also Habitat for Humanity will have a representative and applications available for those interested in their no interest sweat equity homeownership program as well. And CHA’s Section 8 mortgage assistance program that can help first time homeowners make their mortgage payments if you are very low income and employed full time or disabled.
The Homeownership Fair will include a short presentation by each program and there will be time for questions and for you to meet individually with a representative of the different programs. And there will be light refreshments too.
Homeownership is not something to be entered into lightly, much like a marriage, it is a long term commitment, but it can be very rewarding too.
Mark your calendars for Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 6 p.m. in the CHA center meeting room next to the CHA office. And if you think homeownership might be something for you and your family in the next year or so, please attend!
