Cumberland County's non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell almost one percentage point in September, falling from the August rate of 11.6 percent to 10.8 percent.
Tennessee's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for September was 10.5 percent, .2 percentage point lower than the August rate of 10.7 percent. The United States' unemployment rate was 9.8 percent.
County non-seasonaly adjusted unemployment rates for September 2009 show that the rate increased in 11 counties, decreased in 83 counties and remained the same in one county.
Cumberland County's rate of 10.8 percent means about 2,320 people of the counties 21,600 labor force were unemployed during the month of September.
Lincoln County registered the state's lowest county unemployment rate at 6.9 percent, down from 7.2 percent in August. Lauderdale County had the state’s highest unemployment rate at 18.9 percent, down from 19.7 in August, followed by Scott County at 18.4 percent, down from 19.1 percent in August.
Knox County had the state’s lowest major metropolitan rate of 8.1 percent, down 0.6 percentage point from the August rate. Hamilton County was at 8.7 percent, down 0.7 percentage point from the August rate. Davidson County was 9.2 percent, down 0.4 from the previous month, and Shelby County was 10.2 percent, down 0.4 from the August rate.

Lemert grave site rededication set Monday
The restoration of the gravesite of 1st Sgt. Milo Lemert, Cumberland County's only WWI Medal of Honor recipient, is finally complete after months of repair and rebuilding. A special dedication will be held May 28 at the City Cemetery at Sgt. Lemert's gravesite.
