A Cumberland County man taken into custody on a grand jury indictment now finds himself facing a new charge after the arresting officer allegedly recovered medical supplies that had been stolen from the hospital.
Kenneth Doyle Phillips, 33, 718 Seqouia Dr., Lake Tansi, was being served with an indictment charging seven counts of auto burglary, theft more than $1,000, theft more than $500 and five counts of theft less than $500 last Monday when the new charge was filed.
Cumberland County Sheriff's K-9 Officer Danny Stone traveled to Cumberland Medical Center when he learned Phillips was at the hospital.
When he took him into custody on the indictments, "several medical supplies were in his pockets," Stone wrote in his report.
An additional charge of theft of property was placed against Phillips, who was being held under $75,500 bond.
He is to appear in General Sessions Court on Nov. 16 on the new charge and in Criminal Court Nov. 18 for arraignment on the new charges.
