Two Cumberland County men pleaded guilty in Criminal Court recently to sex-related offenses in cases where victims and/or their families agreed to the settlements as the best way to resolve those cases.
Michael Leroy Parolini, 43, who listed a Sheild Circle address when arrested, pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual battery and received a 15-year prison sentence to be served at 100 percent, according to court records.
Parolini was originally charged with three counts of rape of a child in connection with incidents that occurred between January and September, 2007.
He faced from 25 to 60 years in prison and a fine up to $50,000 on the original charges. Parolini must also comply with all requirements of the Sex Offender Registry Act. Fine and court costs were waived.
In the second case, Charles Dewayne Lakens, 44, charged with rape, pleaded guilty to sexual battery and received a two-year suspended sentence. Lakens is to serve four years on probation with the first year under house arrest terms of community corrections. He must also comply with all requirements of the Sex Offender Registry Act.
Lakens was charged in connection with an incident Dec. 14 involving a victim under the age of 13.
