City hears annexation requests for three parcels
Crossville City Council continues to annex property into the city limits at the request of property owners seeking to be in the city.
A public hearing was held on the annexation of part of a lot on Satsuma Drive. During the regular meeting, the council approved the third and final reading of the annexation ordinance as part of the consent agenda.
In addition, the council discussed three other annexation requests. The three requests included one for the annexation of 5 acres on Genesis Road from the Calvin Turner family. The Turner property is just north of I-40 interchange. Another annexation request has been made for adding .18 acres on Myrtle Avenue has been received from Steve Robinson.
A third request for a new annexation came before the council for a lot at 96 Meadowview Drive. The annexation request came from property owners Randy and Jennifer Holderman.
The council approved the first of three readings of an annexation ordinance. A public hearing on the proposed annexations will come at a future meeting.
Billy Loggins reported to the council on marketing projects including the postponement of the opening celebration of the Carl T. Duer soccer complex. Because of too much rain and rain the weekend of the planned opening, the event will be rescheduled for next spring. The program will include an exhibition game by the Lady Vols soccer team.
Also coming up in April of 2010 will be the second annual Sustainability Fair. Already some 50 applications for participating exhibitors have been received. The number of participants last year was 31. Next year's event will be held at the Community Complex.
Loggins said that the local National Guard Unit 278 will be the grand marshal and march in the Crossville Christmas parade.
Loggins also reported that the Don Helms Music Festival and Golf Tournament will be back in Crossville again next year. The event was held in July this year but will be moved up to May of 2010.
The council approved closing a section of Orange Circle between Bob White Drive and Larch Drive. No comments were received during a public hearing prior to the meeting.
Even though city sales tax collections remain below levels of last year, the amount collected is right in line with the budget set for the current fiscal year. Collections are currently some $224,000 less than last year but very slightly above budgeted amounts for the 2009-2010 fiscal year.
Under special projects report, the council learned that the sewer line project out 127-S to Cumberland Mountain State Park was essentially complete. All the lines were installed and tested and parts of the state park are now coming online as the upgrades inside the park property are completed.
The council also learned that as of the council meeting all of the property needed for the water line between Lake Tansi and Meadow Park Lake have been secured. No problem was expected with that last piece of property as the owner was simply out of town.
Crossville Mayor J. H. Graham had a meeting scheduled with state officials on the funding for the project last week and expected to have a good report for the council after the meeting.
Crossville Mayor J. H. Graham proclaimed November as National American Indian Heritage Month and presented members of the Crab Orchard DAR with the proclamation.
